IPNEWS: In a significant boost to Liberia’s infrastructure development, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has vowed to pave the road connecting Lofa County to Maryland County within two years. He made the announcement during the 60th-anniversary celebration of Bong, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, and Nimba Counties in Voinjama City on December 21, 2024.
Reflecting on his campaign visit to Lofa County last year, President Boakai noted improvements in the road conditions but emphasized the need for comprehensive upgrades. “The road is much better now than when I traveled here during my campaign, but we will not stop until it is fully paved. These roads will never be the same again,” he declared.
The President’s pledge forms part of his administration’s broader commitment to improving Liberia’s road network, a key driver of economic growth and regional connectivity. Citizens and local leaders of Lofa County welcomed the announcement with optimism, expressing hope for the economic and social benefits that the paved road will bring.
Beyond the road project, President Boakai outlined plans for additional investments in critical infrastructure, including educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and other essential services. “Our goal is to deliver better opportunities, quality healthcare, and education for our people,” he emphasized, highlighting his administration’s focus on long-term development.
The 60th-anniversary event commemorated the progress and shared history of the four counties, which gained county status in 1964 under former President William V.S. Tubman. President Boakai used the occasion to call for unity among the counties, stressing that collaboration is vital to fostering resilience and prosperity.
Construction on the Lofa-to-Maryland road is expected to begin soon, with President Boakai’s administration aiming to deliver tangible results that will transform lives and strengthen connections between Liberia’s counties.
