The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has received a significant boost in its operational strength following the donation of firefighting equipment valued at over half a million United States dollars.
The contribution, made by a United States-based International Training Group, marks a major step forward in Liberia’s ongoing drive to enhance emergency response systems and safeguard lives and property across the country.
The donation was formally presented during a colorful ceremony held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the LNFS Headquarters on Newport Street in Monrovia.
The occasion brought together senior government officials, members of the Legislature, international partners and personnel of the Fire Service, all united in celebrating a milestone that signals renewed hope for the country’s emergency preparedness sector.
The event underscored growing international confidence in Liberia’s commitment to strengthening public safety institutions.
It also highlighted the deepening partnership between the Liberian government and global safety organizations dedicated to improving disaster response capabilities in developing nations.

According to the donors, the gesture goes beyond the provision of equipment. It represents a broader vision of building capacity, strengthening resilience, and empowering firefighters who risk their lives daily to protect communities.
“This donation is not just about equipment; it is about building capacity, strengthening resilience, and supporting the brave men and women who stand on the frontlines of emergency response,” the representatives emphasized.
“We believe that by equipping firefighters with the right tools, we are contributing directly to saving lives and preserving property.”
The donated items include a comprehensive range of firefighting and emergency response tools designed to enhance operational efficiency.
Among them are 70 pairs of boots, 21 Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machines, gauze sponges and cotton supplies, 55 body safety gear items, 10 helmets, 6 face shields, 102 pairs of protective pants, one stretcher, 103 protective jackets, and 133 hoses.
Each of these items is expected to play a vital role in strengthening the LNFS’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies.
In densely populated urban areas such as Monrovia, where fire outbreaks remain a persistent challenge, the availability of such equipment is critical to minimizing damage and preventing loss of life.
Receiving the donation on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Minister of State Without Portfolio, Mamaka Bility expressed heartfelt appreciation to the International Training Group for what she described as a timely and impactful intervention.
She reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the capacity of the Liberia National Fire Service, emphasizing that public safety remains a top priority under the current administration.
“This generous donation aligns perfectly with the President’s vision of building a safer Liberia,” Minister Bility stated.
“It ensures that our emergency responders are empowered with the tools and training necessary to respond effectively to disasters and protect our citizens.”
She further assured the donors that the equipment would be used for its intended purpose and maintained properly to ensure durability and long-term impact.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity for the leadership of the LNFS to highlight both achievements and ongoing challenges facing the institution.
Speaking at the event, LNFS Director, Colonel Warsuwah Barvouh, praised the International Training Group for its continued partnership and described the donation as a major step forward in addressing longstanding logistical constraints.
“This contribution comes at a critical time when the demand for our services continues to increase,” Col. Barvouh noted.
“It will significantly enhance our operational capacity and boost the morale of our personnel who work tirelessly under challenging conditions.”
Despite the progress, the LNFS Director used the platform to call for increased support from the national government and key stakeholders.
He emphasized the urgent need for investment in training, infrastructure and personnel development to keep pace with Liberia’s rapid urbanization and population growth.
He stressed that expanding the workforce through recruitment and training of additional firefighters is essential to meeting the growing demand for emergency services across the country.
Col. Barvouh also highlighted the importance of improving the welfare of firefighters, including better salaries and comprehensive insurance coverage.
According to him, such measures would not only motivate existing personnel but also attract more young Liberians to pursue careers in firefighting.
“Firefighters risk their lives daily under extremely hazardous conditions,” he stressed.
“It is only fair that they receive adequate compensation, protection, and support for their invaluable service to the nation.”
In a direct appeal to national leaders, he called for stronger legislative backing to improve the conditions of service within the Fire Service.
He also urged citizens to prioritize fire prevention in their homes and communities, noting that proactive measures remain the most effective way to reduce fire incidents.
“Prevention is always better than response,” he added, “we encourage all Liberians to take responsibility for protecting their homes and businesses from fire hazards.”
The event was attended by prominent members of the Legislature, including Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon and Representative Michael Thomas, both of whom reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Fire Service.
Speaker Koon commended the International Training Group for its sustained partnership with Liberia and assured that the Legislature remains dedicated to enacting policies and allocating resources to strengthen national emergency response institutions.
“This is a partnership we deeply value,” he said, “We will continue working with the Executive to ensure that the Fire Service receives the support it needs to function effectively and protect our people.”
Representative Michael Thomas echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between government and international partners in addressing Liberia’s development challenges.
“This donation clearly demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration,” he noted.
“We must continue to build and sustain these partnerships for the benefit of our citizens.”
Notably, the International Training Group revealed that this donation represents their second contribution to the Liberia National Fire Service, signaling a long-term commitment to supporting the institution.
They expressed optimism about expanding their engagement with Liberia through future initiatives, including specialized training programs, technical assistance, and additional equipment donations.
