    LIBERIA: NaFAA Commences Access Road Construction Through World Bank Fisheries Project (LSMFP)

    IPNEWS: The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), with funding from the World Bank through the Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project (LSMFP), has commenced construction of a 1.2 km asphalt access road leading to the Mesurado Industrial Fishing Pier.

    This initiative is part of the preparatory activities for the construction of the Mesurado Industrial Fishing Port. According to a press release from NaFAA and LSMFP, the road construction, which falls under Component 2 of the World Bank-funded project, aims to ensure uninterrupted access to essential fisheries infrastructure while reinforcing Liberia’s commitment to sustainable economic growth.

    The project, estimated to cost over 1 million United States Dollars, will enhance connectivity to the Mesurado Pier Facility which will host Liberia’s first industrial fishing port, located at the Coast Guard Base near the Bong Mines Bridge Freeport, Bushrod Island.

    This initiative aligns with the government’s vision to improve fisheries productivity, bolster the sector’s contribution to the national economy, and enhance food security.

    The joint press release emphasizes that the access road construction is a crucial step under the LSMFP aimed at sustainably developing Liberia’s fisheries sector.

    By improving infrastructure, the project seeks to stimulate economic growth, strengthen resilience against climate change, and provide long-term benefits for stakeholders.
