CDC Secretary General Jefferson T. Koijee has said that even if President Joseph Boakai were to appoint “Lucifer himself” as Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) will still overwhelmingly defeat the Unity Party in the 2029 elections.
Koijee also claimed that Jonathan Weedor, recently appointed as NEC Chairman, is compromised. Referencing the 2023 elections, he alleged that Weedor was a key campaigner for the Unity Party and had predicted a first-round victory at the time.
The opposition leader accused the government of failing the Liberian people and eroding public trust in key institutions, including the NEC. He argued that the country is facing increasing hardship, citing what he described as rising corruption, insecurity, and economic challenges. According to Koijee, the current leadership has abandoned transparency, justice, and accountability.
He further questioned the independence of the NEC, warning that any appointment made by the administration would lack credibility in the eyes of the public.
Despite his criticisms, Koijee expressed confidence that Liberians will ultimately determine the country’s political future through the ballot box, predicting that growing public dissatisfaction will lead to a decisive outcome in the 2029 elections.
