Monrovia City Mayor John Charuk Siafa has joined millions across the globe in marking World Cleanup Day 2025, celebrated under the theme “Green Actions for a Clean Future.”

In a special message to Monrovians, Mayor Siafa urged residents to take practical steps toward protecting the environment from picking up waste to planting trees and raising awareness.

He stressed that individual and collective actions matter, and called on citizens to help build a cleaner, greener, and healthier city for future generations.

Mayor Siafa encouraged that this year’s observance should not be a one-day activity but an inspiration for lasting change across Monrovia.

The event in Liberia was a partnership between the Liberia National Tourism Association (LNTA) and Let’s Do It Liberia., which focuses cleaning up the beach, as part of the global movement’s focus on textile and fashion waste for 2025.

The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), the Paynesville City Corporation, main sponsor Aqualife, and the French Business Club worked together to coordinate the cleanup and waste collection. Organizers urged volunteers to join the cleaning and greening initiatives.

    Mayor Siafa’s ongoing sanitation efforts

Mayor Siafa’s participation in World Cleanup Day aligns with his broader efforts to improve sanitation and waste management in Monrovia.  Siafa frequently takes part in the “First Saturday Cleanup Exercise” to promote a culture of cleanliness in the city.

He has consistently emphasized that keeping Monrovia clean is a shared responsibility, and he often interacts with residents to raise awareness.

He also works to secure logistical support to address waste management challenges, such as meeting with the Chinese Ambassador in September 2025.

Under his leadership, the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) has held workshops to validate a five-year strategic plan for 2025–2029.
