Residents of VaI Town community in District 10, Montserrado County continue to mount pressure on disadvantage Youths , commonly known as Zogos.
The Residents are now preventing the Zogos, from having a peaceful time in their area while consuming the harmful substance of Quash .
The residents are declaring exercise of Zogo in the area will not stop until the guards leave the community completely.
Dwellers of other communities are commending the Vai Town, Old Road Residents for the decision and are anticipating doing the same. The action of the citizen is not only limited to only the consumers, but it has also been extended to the sellers of the harmful drugs. Since the beginning of this year, many youths have died from drug taking in the area.
Recent reports indicate that the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has been actively involved in operations targeting locations associated with drug activity and individuals locally known as “Zogos”.
It may be recall, on August 21, 2025: The LDEA and the Liberia National Police jointly raided areas identified as “ghettos” in Paynesville, specifically the King Gray and SD Cooper Road communities, leading to the arrest of several youths suspected of drug use.
Earlier, on August 19, 2025: The LDEA issued a public caution against uncoordinated citizen-led raids on suspected drug dealers and “Zogos.” The agency emphasized that while it appreciates citizen support, such actions must be coordinated with the LDEA to avoid risks to public safety, human rights violations, or compromising legal procedures.
It’s important to note that the term “Zogos” in Liberia generally refers to a group of young people who are often marginalized and may be struggling with drug addiction and homelessness, often referred to as an “epidemic”.
