—–Says No Sycophantic Glorification of the presidency, as Pitfalls of the past Administration; Becomes 2nd West African Country to Ban President Portray in public offices

IPNEWS: The ruling Unity Party has warned its partisans, including the public, individuals and institutions of using President Boakai’s portrait to demonstrate loyalty, to desist.

In a statement issued Friday, January 3, 2025, the Unity Party also calls on the citizens and officials of the government to avoid ‘sycophantic glorification of the presidency’, a Pitfalls of the past administration.

The governing Unity Party noted that is seriously concerned about the recent surge in Individuals and some institutions unauthorized use of the president’s image on billboards, coffee mugs, clothing, trophies, posters, and other paraphernalia often at programs in honor of the president or on items he is scheduled to donate to the public.

“The President of the Republic of Liberia and Standard Bearer of Unity Party is not inclined for people to use his images to create an impression or demonstrate loyalty or appreciation for favour he may have rendered.”

“It is important to note that the UP remains very firm in its disapproval of practices that show a pattern of making the presidency imperial, and calls on all those acting in the name of the government to avoid replicating the very actions  the UP once criticized during the past immediate administration.”

“The Unity Party, under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., has always championed a governance approach rooted in integrity, modesty, humility, and the prioritization of national interest over individual glorification.” The UP statement highlighted.

Furthermore, the UP strongly admonishes that the use of the president’s image be strictly limited to official national events consistent with state protocols such as state visits involving foreign dignitaries, or initiatives explicitly endorsed by the Government of Liberia. These guidelines are essential to maintaining the decorum and professionalism expected in public service while avoiding any semblance of the practices we denounced in the past.

“With no particular reference to any individual or institution, the UP calls on all those involved to desist immediately, as the Party will not relent to call out any individual or group where there should be any recurrence.”

“The Unity Party calls on all Partisans, Alliance Party members, and the public to remain steadfast and  continue to support the president’s developmental drive as we near the end of the president’s first year in office. Under the able leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Liberia is now being positioned on an irreversible path to greatness in the coming years.”

Liberia now becomes the second country within West Africa to place a ban on the use of the President picture in government offices.

44-year-old Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal give this order following his being sworn in as president of the Republic of Senegal .
