Unity Party Denies Allegations Of Misusing Public Funds For Party Headquarters

    By Amos Harris

IPNEWS: The Unity Party (UP) has firmly denied claims that it is diverting government funds toward the construction of a new party headquarters, describing the allegations as “baseless propaganda.”

Speaking at a fundraising rally in Montserrado County ahead of the party’s official homecoming and nationwide fundraising initiative

Unity Party Secretary-General Amos Tweh, who also serves as Managing Director of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), dismissed reports suggesting that the party is using political influence or public resources to acquire land for its new headquarters.

Speculation has circulated that the UP plans to purchase a 19-acre property, previously vacated for owing over US$150,000 in rent, for approximately US$2.5 million.

However, Senator Daba Varpilah, Chair of the Unity Party Fundraising Steering Committee, has clarified that no formal purchase or payment has been completed.

Tweh emphasized that the party is financing the project entirely through voluntary contributions from members and supporters.

“The Unity Party taking 6.7 million dollars to construct our party headquarters is simply false. We are very transparent, and we are not using public funds,” Tweh stated.

“We are galvanizing resources from our respective pockets for the foundation of the Unity Party’s next generation.”

According to Tweh, the fundraising program aims to establish a permanent home for the party, ensuring stability and continuity for future leadership.

He noted that lessons from past administration efforts, which prioritized governance over infrastructure, are guiding the current initiative.

“We must learn from our mistakes and we won’t repeat them,” Tweh added. “As a party, we are always ready to learn and grow stronger while building a fundamental political institution for the next generation.”

The fundraising campaign, described as a “homecoming and nationwide effort to unite partisans and secure a permanent home,” is expected to mobilize resources across Liberia for the development of the party’s infrastructure and sub-headquarters nationwide.
